Nicol-Sey describes Shatta Wale as ‘one big empty barrel’

Award-winning music video director, David Nicol-Sey, has slammed Shatta Wale while blaming the dancehall artiste for the failure of the Ghanaian music industry.

Nicol-Sey on Monday, September 6, 2021, took to social media to make these remarks.

His tweet read: “Shattawale is the main reason the Ghanaian music industry is failing. One big empty barrel!”

“Same artist will rant about how the industry is struggling but yet tarnish and insult everyone. This behaviour of his greatly discourages investor confidence and cripples the entire Ghana music industry.”

While it is unclear what triggered his statement, there are speculations it was due to a post Shatta Wale made in which the musician uttered inuendoes.

“Keep shooting videos like you want to battle Jay Z, you will wake up one day and ask me how I made all this money… and I will tell you this…” Shatta Wale’s post accompanied with some press play button images read.

Nicol-Sey’s tweet has stoked controversy with some social media users trolling Shatta Wale while others lambast the video director for chastising the musician.

Nicol-Sey has worked with many artistes including Sarkodie, Ric Hassani, Edem, Dee Moneey, Ice Prince, Reggie Rockstone, D-Black, R2bees, M’anifest, Samini, 4×4, VVIP, King Promise, Pappy Kojo and Akwaboah.

Among his works are Sarkodie’s ‘Overdose’, Pappy Kojo’s ‘Makoma.

Nicol-Sey won 4stye Best Directed Music Video of the Year with Sarkodie’s ‘Overdose’ as well as 4stye Best Photography Music Video 2017.

It will not be the first time an industry person has scolded Shatta Wale for his attitude towards other stakeholders. The award-winning musician regardless refuses to impress everybody. In some instances, he mentioned that his decision to be controversial is strategic, adding that he achieves the intended purposes.
