Nico Williams faces pressure from family to stay at Athletic Club despite Barcelona’s interest

Nico Williams’ future remains uncertain as the talented winger contemplates his next move following his recent Euro Cup triumph with the Spanish national team.

The 22-year-old is currently taking a well-deserved break while considering two primary options: staying at Athletic Club or joining Barcelona.

Barcelona has shown keen interest in signing Williams, with Deco meeting his agent, Félix Tainta, this Wednesday to discuss a potential transfer. The meeting took place in Zaragoza, a midpoint between Barcelona and Bilbao, where they reportedly discussed and possibly agreed on the terms of Williams’ future contract with the Blaugrana.

However, Williams is facing pressure from his family and close associates to remain at Athletic Club. According to David Ibañez on the ElDesmarque Twitch channel, Williams’ entourage is urging him to stay, primarily because Athletic Club will host the Europa League final next year at San Mamés.

Additionally, Barcelona’s financial struggles raise concerns about their ability to register new players, adding another layer of complexity to Williams’ decision.
