Unidentified gunmen Saturday night, sneaked into the private residence of the Member of Parliament for the Nhyiaso Constituency of the Ashanti Region, in an attempt to take his life.
The event which occurred on night of Saturday 2nd of November, 2019 is the latest assassination attempt on key political figures in the country.
The Member of Parliament Hon. Kennedy Kankam was in his house at Nhyiaeso with his family when gunmen sneaked into his bedroom, ostensibly to take his life.
“This was a well-planned plot to eliminate him,” a close source told this online portal.
Witnesses indicate that the assassins used a cutter to gain access to the house and then into the bedroom of the Honourable member.
According to information available, it took the gunmen almost three (3) hours to negotiate with him and his family before they could spare his life.
“In the process, the gunmen took various sums of money in the denomination of pounds sterling, dollars and cedis. They later requested for and got away with his V8 car” the sources told this reporter
“Look it became an argument between the three gunmen whether to spare his life or kill him after taking everything from him and his family including their phones”
“After leaving the house, the ring leader came back to warn Mr. Kankam to be careful since those who contracted them (gunmen) to kill him, were still in his tracks, warning, “‘ we were to kill you but we have spared your life, they will still follow you so be careful’”
This is not the first time a politician has been attacked by gunmen in the country.
On the 9th of February, 2016, a member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Hon. J.B. Danquah was stabbed to death in his house.
Just last week the treasurer of NPP for Takoradi Constituency Mr. Mark Ofori was also shot dead in his own house.
