New Name Proposed for Nigeria

The United Republic of Africa (URA) has been proposed as the new name for Nigeria.

Tax consultant, Adeleye Jokotoye, made the proposal recently.

Mr Jokotoye submitted his proposal to the House of Representatives for Nigeria’s name to be changed to United African Republic (UAR).

The proposal has since generated massive interest and taken social media in Nigeria by storm.

Many Nigerian Twitter users believe  the name Nigeria ought to have been changed a long ago.

The name Nigeria was proposed in the 19th century by British journalist,  Flora Shaw.

Flora Shaw, historical records showed, was the then girlfriend of the colonial administrator, Lord Frederick Lugard.
