Netflix reacts to reported plans to leave Nigeria after six years

Netflix has denied rumours that it is exiting Nigeria amid economic challenges.

The reports the of streaming giant’s exit sparked anxiety among Nigerians and filmmakers alike.

The false information which circulated online, were attributed to renowned Nigerian actor Kunle Afolayan, suggesting that Netflix had cancelled many commissioned projects in Nigeria.

Netflix denied the reports, stating that: “We are not exiting Nigeria. We will continue to invest in Nigerian stories to delight our members.”

Netflix, which entered the Nigerian market in 2016, has significantly elevated local content to a global audience.

The platform has backed numerous Nollywood productions, providing a much-needed boost to the creative economy and fostering the international visibility of Nigerian storytelling.
