Nestle Ghana Limited has organized Customer Conference and Awards ceremony to celebrate their loyal customers and also rewarded their deserving customers for their outstanding performances in 2018.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director of Nestle Ghana Philomena Tan stated that, their business in Ghana has recorded a strong growth of 12.8%, of which many of their distributors also enjoyed this growth momentum.
“In order to achieve this growth, the business took some pressure on our bottom line due to the volatile economic conditions in 2018. Our consumers are at the heart of everything we do in Nestlé.” She stated
“As a company, we derive value not only from our day to day business but also through the impact we make in the lives of individuals and families living in the communities we operate.” She added.
Nestlé Ghana Limited started business in Ghana in 1957 under the trading name of Nestlé Products (Gh) Limited with the importation of Nestlé products such as milk and chocolates. In 1968, it was incorporated as Food Specialties (Gh) Limited to manufacture and market locally well known Nestlé brands.
The company became Nestlé Ghana Limited in 1987. In 1971 the production of the IDEAL Milk and MILO started at the Tema Factory. The factory has since been further developed and now also produces CARNATION milks, CHOCOLIM, CHOCOMILO CEREVITA, CERELAC and NESCAFÉ 3 in 1. These products are not only produced for Ghana but also exported across West Africa.
Philomena Tan also stressed that, in order to ensure that our efforts are sustainable, Nestlé believes in the principle of creating shared value along our entire value chain; from the farmer who provides the raw materials, to our production site where we focus on safety, quality and product innovation, to you our distributors who play a critical role in ensuring route to market.
In ensuring healthy and quality healthy living of our people, we have over 62 years have generously committed in building healthy happy lives for individuals and families, through the provision of healthier and tastier food choices that complements the nutritional needs for growth and wellbeing of Individuals and Families. Our products, which includes, fortified with Iron, Vitamin C and other micro nutrients.
“This is our contribution to dealing with the high levels of iron deficiency leading to aneamia in our population. The 2014 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey indicates that two-thirds of children are aneamic, it is most common in Northern region with a rate of 82% and least common in Ashanti region at a rate of 54%. Also, 42% of women are reported to be aneamic. So, we have fortified our favourite MILO, NIDO, IDEAL milk powder, our MAGGI bouillon and most importantly Cerelac. And we are continuously renovating and innovating to bring high quality and affordable nutrition to our consumers.” She revealed.
We are also committed to building resilient and inclusive communities and caring for the environment through our business practices.
Through our Creating Shared Value Initiatives such as the Nestlé Cocoa Plan, we help build capacity of over 17,000 Cocoa farmers by bringing in specialists to train them on sustainable farming practices. Through the GhanaWASH Project, we provided over 52,000 people living in farming communities with clean water and sanitary facilities.
Since sponsorship has its limitation, we have collaborated with seven other companies to form as a coalition known as GRIPE and are working with a local vendor who has successfully developed plastic bricks made out of recycled plastic which will be used to build sanitary facilities. We believe that when we create a viable business opportunity, these initiatives will be sustainable. This is why; Nestle is committed to Creating Shared Value and not philanthropic initiatives.
She said, the theme for 2019, is “Delivering Growth”. This is to continue to do so in an ever increasingly dynamic environment and also to have leverage on strong relationship and continue to enhance our distribution capabilities, stay relevant to their consumers and build on each other’s core expertise.
With determination, discipline and commitment, I am convinced that together, we will continue to win and scale new heights for our businesses.
