Maduka Okoye apologises for costly error in Udinese’s defeat to Inter Milan after messy break-up with girlfriend

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has issued a heartfelt apology to Udinese fans following his error in the club’s 3-2 defeat to reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan.

Okoye, who was recently thrust into the spotlight due to personal issues off the field, admitted that his mistake on the pitch contributed to the loss.

The 25-year-old Nigerian goalkeeper took to Instagram to express his regret for his performance, particularly his role in conceding Davide Frattesi’s tame opening goal.

Okoye, who has been excellent since becoming Udinese’s number-one goalkeeper last year, said simply, “Sorry,” in an Instagram Story directed at the fans, showing his awareness of the gravity of the error.

His blunder came just hours after his longtime girlfriend, Dutch model Jelicia Westhoff, publicly announced the end of their four-year relationship.

In several emotional Instagram posts, Westhoff accused Okoye of lacking respect for their family, stating, “You have no respect for the family you’ve decided to create.” The two share a son, Isaiah Emilio.

Though Okoye wasn’t the sole reason for Udinese’s defeat, his early error in the match against Inter Milan was seen as a crucial moment in the encounter.

Fans had hoped for more from the goalkeeper, who had been linked with a move to Inter over the summer transfer window.

Despite the defeat, Okoye’s apology reflected his commitment to the club and its supporters.

Udinese will next face Lecce on October 5, hoping to bounce back after their tough loss.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan look ahead to their Champions League clash against Red Star, with confidence boosted by the victory.
