NDC opens nominations for regional positions

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday opened nominations for regional positions.

According to the National Organizer for NDC, Kofi Adams, the nomination for aspirating regional executives ends on Wednesday and all contestants are expected to represent their forms by close of next Tuesday.

In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Adams said elections of regional executives would be held on August 18, after the vetting process later this month.
“Nomination for regional executive positions opens today, and prospective aspirant who are members of the party and qualify per our regulations can pick nomination form today, tomorrow and Wednesday the 18, after that no one can pick forms for the regional executive position,” he said.

Mr. Adams also noted that aspirants must return forms by July 24 with payment of their various filing fees.

He also added that vetting would be done between the 1st and 6th of August.

Last month, delegates of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) voted across the country to elect Constituency Executives.

This forms part of the party’s process of electing national officers ahead of the 2020 election.

The areas the voted include Odododiodioo in the Greater Accra Region, Bimbilla in the Nanumba North constituency, the Ashanti Region and the Volta Region.

The Akatsi South constituency election would have been marred by violence if the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Regional Executives, the Member of Parliament for the constituency and security personnel had not intervened.

There was chaos at some polling center after some aspirants accused their opponents of planting delegates along the ballot boxes to campaign even though campaigning has ended.

A Deputy Youth Organizer aspirant, Alex Doe Buadi alleged that the exercise was not properly coordinated and the election coordinators didn’t encourage fair contest among them.

He accused them of allowing some delegates to stand by the ballot boxes to the campaign.
