NDC, Mahama have failed to protect Mills’ legacy – Anyidoho

Aide to former President John Evans Atta Mills, Koku Anyidoho, has said that the erstwhile John Mahama administration and the National Democratic Congress NDC) have failed grossly in protecting the legacy of the late President.

According to Koku Anyidoho, he expected the then Mahama-led-government and the NDC party as a whole to preserve the legacy of their late leader by projecting the party on the basis of what he (Mills) stood for.

He said the least the party and the then Mahama government could do was to complete the final resting place, ‘Asomdwe Park’ of the late president.

Expressing his disappointment, Mr Anyidoho said the ‘Asomdwe’ Park, until a wreath-laying ceremony for the late president this year, had been left in a deplorable state – a situation the former aide and confidant of the late president describes as unacceptable.

“Two months ago, when I got there, I told myself I will not bother to go and lay a wreath because the place was so horrible,” he said.

The ‘Asomdwe’ Park, he stressed, was initially designed to suit a state monument like the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum but the park, unfortunately, has been left to rot after the burial of the late president.

“The original plan of ‘Asomdwe’ Park had a business model attached to it. The master plan was that within one-year after his burial, ‘Asomdwe’ Park would be built into a state monument, don’t ask me what happened,’ he said.

The former presidential aide wondered why for four and half years the NDC failed to maintain the ‘resting place’ of one of their own.

“Don’t ask me why even within four and half years of the NDC in power, the park was still not built but ask the telcos if they really funded the project and who they gave the money to,” he said in a rather agitated mood.

Koku Anyidoho is pleading for help in guarding the legacy of the late president.

“The Mills Institute which I am the founder wrote officially to the presidency this year begging them in the name of God and country, that if they can do something about the ‘Asomdwe’ Park” he noted.

Speaking on Citi TV’s point of view, Koku Anyidoho said he will continue to do whatever it takes to keep the legacy of the late statesman alive.

He hinted on co-authoring a biography in honour of the late president.
