Former President John Dramani Mahama has described as criminal Monday’s afternoon shooting at the Ashanti Regional Headquarters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made him regret of his “BOOT FOR BOOT” comment.
In a post on his Facebook page sighted by thepressradio.com he called on the police and related security agencies to immediately apprehend the perpetrators of the crime and subject them to the full rigors of the law.
His post reads “I have just been briefed about a shooting incident that occurred in front of the Ashanti Regional Office of the NDC leading to the death of one person and injury to another.
I strongly condemn this incident. It is clearly a criminal act, and I call on the police and relevant security agencies to investigate, immediately apprehend the culprits and subject them to the full rigours of the law”
thepressradio.com earlier today broke the story about how one person had been shot dead while another is nursing serious injuries following an attack by gunmen.
The attackers were four in number and arrived at the venue with motorbikes, armed with cutlasses and pistols.
thepressradio.com’s Ashanti Regional Reporter who was at the scene said the armed macho men believed to belong to the NDC’s Hawks vigilante group stormed the venue to stop the NDC Ashanti Regional Consultative meeting from coming on.
Present in the meeting were NDC Regional Executives as well National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia who run for their lives when the gunshots started.
In the melee that ensued, a member of the NDC Regional Taskforce, one Wasiu was shot dead.
The exact reason for their presence was unclear. What was obvious, according to our reporter, was that they just didn’t want the meeting to come on.
The injured are receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while the body of Wasiu has been deposited at the morgue pending investigation.
