The Minister of Education, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has been honored by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the University Teachers Associatiation of Ghana (UTAG) for his outstanding performances in dealing in crises that have confronted his ministry during his tenure of office.

UTAG, describing the Manhyia South constituency MP as a true friend of the UTAG and a  leader, said the minister’s survival at the ministry which is the most challenging institution in Ghana is due to his ”ready-to-engage-and-explain” strategy which his predecessors lacked.

Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as Napo, was honoured during the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) Biennial Congress 2019, recently held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

The congress which was partnered by the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT), was on the theme “Harmonising Standard in Ghanaian Tertiary Education Systems: Challenges and Implications”.

The outgoing UTAG National President, Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah, reading the citation said “your composure in times of crises situations set you apart as a true leader. There is no doubt that your Ministry is one of the most challenging entities at this time in Ghana .

“Many are those who have gone ahead of you who did not survive this long in office and it is not though your tenure has been without the usual hues and crises that characterized the sector but the difference is how you handle them,” the citation added.

Dr. Opoku Mensah also reading said “your ready-to-engage-and-explain strategy, coupled with your readiness to listen and learn has really been the bedrock of your success.”

“….even though you are part of government, you have always maintain a soft paw for UTAG during negotiations for better conditions of service for our members. The National Executive Committe of UTAG presents this token to you in appreciation of your extraordinary support for out course,” the citation concluded.
