My phone was forcibly taken – Hawa Koomson breaks silence on assault

Former Awutu Senya East MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, has broken her silence following the alleged assault during the parliamentary election rerun at the Ablekuma North Constituency.
In a statement, Madam Koomson confirmed that she was physically assaulted by individuals she described as “NDC machomen” while peacefully observing proceedings at one of the polling centres.
She further disclosed that her personal mobile phone was forcibly taken from her during the incident.
As a result, she warned the public to treat any calls, messages, social media posts, or broadcasts originating from her number after the incident as unauthorized.
Hawa Koomson urged the public to disregard any communication purportedly coming from her until she regains full control of her digital platforms.
The assault occurred at the St. Peter’s Society Methodist Church polling station in Odorkor, where tensions erupted following the arrival of unidentified men, reportedly in a pickup truck and on motorbikes.
Their presence caused panic and chaos among voters and electoral officials.
Eyewitnesses claimed that Madam Koomson attempted to use pepper spray to ward off the attackers but was overwhelmed and subsequently assaulted.
A video captured at the scene showed the former MP on the ground, surrounded by a crowd of agitated individuals.
Despite the presence of additional security personnel deployed to manage tensions at polling stations, their intervention failed to prevent the altercation.
The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.
