MP’s who build toilet facilities understand the needs of their constituents – NPP MP

The Member of Parliament (MP) Atwima-Kwawoma constituency in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Appiah Kubi wants lawmakers who build toilet facilities in their constituencies to be praised rather than reprimanded because they tend to understand the needs of their people.

He states that toilet facilities are essential for the development of the communities and would also help in dealing with the open defecation menace in the country, revealing that Ghana ranks second in the world among countries whose residents engage in open defecation.

“If you come into our communities, residents demand toilet facilities which are important for their health needs.  The MP decides to commit part of his or her common fund to build a toilet that is what we do”, he disclosed on Kumasi-based on Bohye and Gye Nyame FM during an interview hosted by Agya Yaw Obeng.

Justifying the construction of toilet facilities he stated “Don’t forget that in Ghana is ranked second in open defecation in the whole world. If we are supposed to help in eradicating this canker, we must use unconventional means to help this regard. MPs commitment is helping to bring results”, he disclosed on the show dubbed “Ghana te sen” MyNewsGh.com.

The lawmaker explained it is the reason the Ministry of Special Development Initiative (SDI) was created to cater for basic amenities and other facilities that are non-existent at the local level.

“It is a major worry that is why Nana Akufo-Addo has resolved to ensure that by close of his first term, Ghana will not be ranked as second in the world for open defecation.  That has informed the creation of the Ministry Special Development Initiative where resources are being channeled into water provision, toilets,  warehouses and others that help develop communities”, he posited.
