Ministry of Education refutes reports on scrapping teacher trainee allowances

Claims that the government plans to eliminate teacher trainee stipend have been denied by the Ministry of Education, which has called the reports false.

The Ministry responded to a front-page article by The Daily Graphic with the headline, “Teacher Trainee Allowance to go,” in a press release dated February 4, 2025.

According to the Ministry, the article was erroneous and did not accurately represent Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu’s genuine statements.

In a meeting with the Executives of the Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), the Minister underlined the government’s commitment to helping students in Colleges of Education, according to the Ministry.

The government is willing to look into methods to improve financial aid for teacher candidates, he said.

The statement went on to say that the government will keep the allowances in place until a definitive deal is achieved with all parties involved, even though an enhanced student loan program might be explored in the future.

“We urge The Daily Graphic to correct the wrong impression created and to give this rejoinder the same prominence as its earlier publication,” the Ministry stated.

Additionally, the Ministry urged media outlets to confirm material before to publishing in order to prevent unwarranted anxiety among stakeholders.
