Mind your speech! – Popular Ghanaian boxers fire Okatakyie Afrifa for ‘attacking’ Sharaf Mahama

Following the conclusion of the ‘Battle of the Beasts’ boxing event, Afrifa questioned Sharaf on where he got the funds to organise such a huge boxing event in the country.

The media personality asserted that the fact that global boxing stars like Anthony Joshua and Amir Khan were involved is an indication that a lot of money was invested, which raises eyebrows.

In reaction to this, some prominent Ghanaian boxers have lambasted Afrifa for stooping so low to make such uncouth remarks that undermine the Legacy Rise Sport CEO’s efforts.

Former African champion, Bukom Banku, cautioned Afrifa to be wary of his utterances, otherwise he might be jailed.

“You are questioning Sharaf Mahama’s source of income to organise the event. His father is a rich man, or you don’t know? He is also a prominent figure but people use their own pocket money. So, mind your speech and shut up, else one day you will go to jail,” he said in a TikTok video.

Renowned boxer Michael ‘Ayittey Powers’ Okine fumed over Okatakyie’s comment and urged Sharaf Mahama to remain focused.

“Don’t come and talk about what you don’t know. What wrong did Sharaf do? If someone does something good, he deserves praise. There are a lot of potential boxers who need promotion, but some of us can’t do it to Sharaf’s level.

“Footballers have been investing in football, but nothing has come out of it, so we need to encourage him, not attack him,” he stated in a video shared on TikTok.

Former WBO Africa Lightweight champion, Emmanuel Tagoe, well known as ‘Game Boy’, warned Afrifa to stay away from boxing issues or face consequences.

“If you have a personal issue with his father, don’t bring boxing into it. If you are a fool, we are madder than you. I am warning you to stay away from boxing issues. We hate that NDC, NPP propaganda. If not, we the boxers will deal with you personally,” he said.
