Metro cop shot dead in Cape Town

Western Cape police have launched a manhunt for gunmen who shot dead a City of Cape Town metro police officer in Marikana, Philippi East, on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the off-duty officer, 49, was found lying next to his vehicle in Disa Road at about 13:40.

“The unknown suspects allegedly fled the scene in a vehicle that belonged to the deceased. The motive for the attack is possibly robbery,” he added.

The man was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

The victim was based at the metro police radio control room in N1 City, Goodwood.

No arrests have yet been made.
