President Nana Akufo-Addo has assured the public that individuals found to have engaged in any form of criminality in relation to the Menzgold saga will be brought to book.

Menzgold Ghana Limited has been struggling to pay its customers after it was asked to stop operations of its gold vault market by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over regulatory infractions.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the CEO, Nana Appah Mensah, who is also standing trial in Dubai for a gold business transaction which has gone bad. The properties of the CEO has been confiscated by the state through a court order as a probe continues.

Commenting on the development during his state of the nation address on Thursday, 21 February 2019, Mr Akufo-Addo noted that: “As the authorities try to unravel the intricacies of what happened, I admonish all Ghanaians to learn the necessary lessons for the future even as state institutions work to bring a resolution to the matter and those who are seen to have indulged in criminal activity are brought to justice”.

The president said the “tragic phenomenon that appears to have occurred in plain sight” has “affected a lot of people in spite of warnings from official institutions”.
