Meet the 14-year-old referee who handled Ashanti Regional Inter School Championship final

Benedict Agyei, a 14-year-old referee, made a name for himself in the Ashanti Region Inter-School Championship after officiating in the final on December 5, 2024.

Agyei inducted his name in the competition’s history becoming the youngest referee ever to officiate in the Inter-Schools Championship.

He was the center referee for the final between Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) and Simms Senior High School (SIMMS) at the Baba Yara Stadium.

The game ended 2-2 after extra time, with OKESS winning on penalties to clinch the title.

Benedict Agyei is a business student in his second year at Asanteman Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.

He is one of the products of the Ghana Football Association’s futuristic initiative, dubbed the ‘Catch Them Young Referee Project.’

The project aims to nurture and equip young Ghanaian talents who are passionate about becoming professional referees.

Benedict Agyei delivered an exceptional performance and has become a topic of discussion for exhibiting a high standard of refereeing at the age of 14.
