Masked Men, Plot by Top Politician: Kusi-Poku gives details of alleged assassination attempt against Kwahumanhene

Speaking in an interview on Accra FM on October 23, 2024, Kusi-Poku connected the assassination attempt and recent attacks against the paramount chief to a prominent politician in the country, whom he claimed has been meddling in the chieftaincy issues of Kwahu.

He indicated that the chief’s removal from his position as the board chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank PLC (ADB) was orchestrated by politicians who wanted him out.

He stated that leading figures in government, including the said politician, intended to collapse the bank to purchase it at a very low price, but the chief’s refusal to comply has become his downfall.

He alleged that, if not for the intervention of the Ghana Police Service, the chief would have been killed by masked men allegedly sent by the politician.

“This Sunday, some people nearly attacked the Kwahumanhene, and it was only God who saved him. Maybe for the first time, I would praise the Ghana Police Service… if not, the Nana Kwahumanhene would be (sic), there are a lot of people who love him.”

“He was at the chief’s palace when masked men besieged it. They claimed the queen mother had instructed them to come and close the palace. These are people (the masked men) sent by Bryan Acheampong. Do you know they are the same people who recorded visuals of the incident and sent them to me? More than 150 of them stormed the chief’s palace intending to kill the chief,” he said in the Twi dialect.

He continued, “They (the masked men) were there to kill the chief. They told me this… For some time, the chief has faced bad press due to machinations against him by certain elements. He was a chartered accountant before he became chief. So, when this government came into power, they appointed him as the board chairman of ADB. The bank was in poor shape when he took over, but he managed to bring about significant transformation. At one point, some leaders wanted the bank to collapse so they could buy it, but he did not agree. All these details are from people at the palace, associates of the queen mother, and allies of Bryan Acheampong.”

Kusi-Poku also mentioned that one of the methods politicians used to attack the chief was a GH¢50,000 donation made to him by a friend whom he had helped secure a GH¢50 million loan from ADB.

He alleged that the said businessperson was compelled to submit a petition to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, requesting the removal of the Kwahumanhene from ADB on the grounds that the GH¢50,000 was a bribe the chief demanded.

He added that the chief resigned from the bank following the petition to the president, but the attacks on him have not ceased.
