Martin Kpebu clashes with Jakpa

Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has criticised the approach taken by the Richard Jakpa-led National Security in their operations at the residences of former government officials.

Addressing the recent operation at the house of Dr. Ernest Addison, former Bank of Ghana Governor, on TV3, Kpebu stated that Jakpa should be the last person to execute a warrant and subject individuals to unlawful raids.

He explained that Jakpa, who was once a victim of injustice during the Ambulance case trial and had people like him, Kpebu, fighting for fairness, should not subject others to the same treatment or abuse the power he currently holds.

Kpebu further stated that such actions by Jakpa could tarnish the goodwill that President Mahama has from Ghanaians.

“We concentrated on the law, which is that Godfred Dame should not be holding such conversations with Japka, and eventually, we saw how the Court of Appeal looked at the matter truly and executed justice. So, Jakpa should be the last person to execute a warrant in a manner that would embarrass JM like he’s doing,” he said on March 22, 2025.

Kpebu, a member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee, further mentioned that if Jakpa engages in acts that violate the law, it would mean their advocacy for him and their strong fight for justice on his behalf would have been in vain.

He called on Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations at the National Security, to show magnanimity toward former appointees whose houses he raids and be an example of someone who stands for justice.

“I mean, if it is true that Jakpa led the search knowing that some months ago, we were here defending him more or less through advocacy when he was standing before the courts, then Jakpa should also be magnanimous in victory.

“We sat here and kept bearing at the judges that Jakpa must have justice. So, he should know that once Ghanaians fought for him when he was in trouble, when he’s going to lead a team, he should be a good example of somebody who wants to give another person justice,” he added.

Richard Jakpa and his team conducted an operation at the Roman Ridge residence of the former BoG boss, Dr. Ernest Addison, reportedly disabling his CCTV.
