Former NDC vice Presidential Candidate for the 2000 elections, Martin Amidu added his voice to the popular call by the majority of Ghanaians to return John Mahama to the steer seat to drive us to our dream destination as a country. This is expected because in an earlier article, he describe Dr. Bawumia is a replica of Nana Addo’s character and image.

“Nana Akufo-Addo has so successfully groomed Dr Bawumia in his own character and image that he can rest assured that when Dr Bawumia succeeds him as president, the fruits of ‘Ohene sℇ wo foro akoŋwa yi na sℇ wo aŋya sika a, wↄ bℇka sℇ wo yℇ okwasanpa ni’ will be protected from auditing for his family, friends, and cronies under his regime to sleep in peace.”

In an article titled,“Why Martin Amidu Cannot Support Mahamudu Bawumia’s Candidature At The 2024 Elections”  Martin Amidu concluded; “John Dramani Mahama is not a saint, but he is nobody’s poodle. He has the experience as a former President to audit the mess the Nana Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government will leave behind. I have had problems with John Dramani Mahama in the past which are documented on my website. The constitutional situation on our hands, however, demands pragmatism to ensure probity and accountability after an eight year tenure of government. We need a candidate who can command a sizeable parliamentary representation to actualize an audit of the previous government. John Dramani Mahama whose audit Nana Akufo-Addo fears ought to be the best bet for the integrity of the 1992 Constitution in our present circumstances. The 1992 Constitution does not enshrine dynasty or inheritance by cronyism, which is why the electorate should aim for a change in government on 7 December 2024 to defend and preserve the Constitution of our Fourth Republic. Ghana must always come first!”

A man, Martin Amidu rightly described as the “Mother serpent of corruption” must not have his way on 7th December, 2024. Dr. Bawumia been the replica of the “Mother serpent of corruption” will not have the courage to investigate the corruption and crimes under the current regime and so Martin Amidu is right in calling on Ghanaians to vote for the incorruptible Mahama to implement Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) as promised in the Resetting Ghana Manifesto.

Martin Amidu’s return is very much encouraging because we know the marriage between Amidu and the NPP will be short lived. In fact, it was not normal. The NPP and corruption can never be separable and so it was shocking for Martin Amidu to even think that Nana Addo and the NPP are the panacea to the perceived corruption associated with the Mahama government.

Like Martin Amidu said, John Mahama is not a saint but it is very clear that the numerous corruption allegations were just conjectures deliberately designed to negaitively paint President Mahama to achieve a certain political motive. The motive have since been achieved and not a single one of the numerous allegations against Mahama has been proven after 8 years.

We must also remember that Martin Amidu at his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament as the Special Prosecutor, admitted that his claims that former President John Mahama installed moles in the Nana Addo’s government to undermine its efforts to fight corruption in the Ghana was based on perception.

The venerable Amidu in an article titled: “The Missing Link” said; “moles planted in high positions by the Mahama administration, within the ministries ahead of the 2016 election, are sabotaging efforts by the Akufo-Addo administration to fight corruption, especially regarding the GHC51.2 million judgment debt paid to businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome, by the Mills/Mahama administration.”

When challenged by the committee to prove his claims, he admitted that his accusations were just mere perceptions. “I was stating a perception.” Clearly, the venerable Martin Amidu knows very well that President Mahama is not corrupt but was he (Amidu) was hanging him for whatever reason, we are yet to know.

The appointment of Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor was primarily to witch hunt NDC stalwarts and this is evident in the Mahama Ayariga trial and that of the Airbus investigations. In all of these, the accused emerged cleaner more than they were. Ayariga was acquitted and discharged while President Mahama was cleared by the Office of the Special Prosecutor as clean.

The NPP was just taking advantage of the crack between the NDC and Martin Amidu to get at Mahama. But it is well. He has returned to where he forever belongs, the normal, the great NDC he fought hard to make great. All that happen in the past must be placed far behind us and move forward and my understanding is that Martin Amidu is ready to lead the way. No matter how hard a man pushes his urine, it will still end up at his feet. Martin Amidu is back and we must celebrate.
