Man burns himself to death after attempting to strangle wife at Abeka

In a harrowing incident at Abeka in the Greater Accra Region, a man reportedly set himself on fire following an unsuccessful attempt to murder his wife.

The event took place in the early morning hours of Monday, May 6, 2024, after the husband had made multiple threats to end his wife’s life and his own.

The victim, a 38-year-old mother of three named Martina Jones, recounted the terrifying experience to Adom News.

She reported that her estranged husband, Collins Jones, assaulted her while she was asleep at around 3 a.m.

He struck her head with a big stick, causing a severe injury that resulted in profuse bleeding.

The ordeal escalated as Collins attempted to strangle her, but Martina’s resilience allowed her to escape his grasp and flee the room. Neighbours intervened, providing immediate assistance and transporting her to the hospital for medical treatment.

In a desperate move to avoid apprehension or retaliation, Collins set himself on fire within their residence.

Upon arrival, neighbours discovered him in a critical condition and promptly took him to the hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter that has sent shockwaves throughout the community.
