Man arrested after 14-year-old girl’s body found on Barrydale dumping site

A 37-year-old man will appear in the Swellendam Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of murder after the body of a teenage girl was found on a dump site in Barrydale, Western Cape on Saturday.

Over the weekend, several social media users in the area reported hearing sirens, and speculated about the murder of the teenager.

On Monday, police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed the murder and arrest of a suspect.

“According to reports, police received a missing person complaint and during the investigation they found the body of the deceased at a dumping site.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation,” Rwexana said.

It was not made clear when the man was taken into custody.
