Mamprugu overlord praises Nana Addo: “You’re a generational thinker”

The Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Nabohagu Mahami Sheriga has commended President Nana Akufo-Addo for his political courage in creating the North East region.

Nayiri Nabohagu Mahami Sheriga showered the praises on Nana Addo in a speech at the Jubilee House during the presentation of the Constitutional Instrument for the creation of the six new regions.

According to him, President Nana Addo is a peacemaker, a generational thinker and someone who has lived his entire life in the interest of humanity.

Yidaama Zakaria, who is the spokesperson for the Mamprugu overlord gave the speech on behalf of the overlord of the Mamprugu traditional area who was present at the event.

“You are a peacemaker, a generational thinker and above all a peerless politician. You have devoted your entire life to serve humanity, sometimes at the very peril of your priceless gift of life. You have over the last two years, since you assumption of the reigns of leadership building the frontiers of democracy. Your very wait in the queue in realizing your political ambition was divine.. you were destined by the almighty God to lead this country at a critical time such as this.”

“It pays to have patience, to wait for God’s own appointed time. You are an epitome of all virtues of courage, patience and humility, you are indeed a rare gem of a politician”

The Mamprugu Overlord described the new region as a critical ingredient for development, peace and social harmony in the area.

“Your Excellency, I wish to assure you that the North East region is the vehicle to drive the development agenda for the people in region. We shall partner to make sure that the engine of this vehicle is at all time oiled to keep it in perfect state and function.. The North East region has a fair share of natural resources. The region has large deposits of valuable minerals such as Gold. The region has rich fertile value dotted across for commercial farming… this can be tapped for national development.”

The Nayiri Nabohagu Mahammi Sheriga, also thanked all stakeholders including the Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, Minister for Regional reorganization and development Mr. Dan Botwe, Hajia Alima Mahama, Parliament, and the Supreme Court for the roles they played in the creation of the North East region.

Nalerigu selected as capital of North East Region

Nalerigu, the oldest town in the East Mamprusi Municipal Assembly, has been selected as the capital of the North East Region.

This was announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo on Tuesday at a ceremony at the presidency to present the Constitutional Instrument backing the creation of the region.

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed has also been named the caretaker Minister of the region which has an estimated population of 440,000.

The districts making up the new region are the East Mamprusi,  West Mamprusi Municipality, the Bunkprugu-Nakpanduri, the Yunyoo-Nasuan, Mamprugu-Moagduri and Chereponi districts.

In his speech to mark the event, President Akufo-Addo assured that “government projects and structures will be equitably spread across the region.”

“Government will make sure that the desire for growth and progress, which was the underlining reason for the vote for the creation of the North East Region is met,” the President added.

Residents endorse North East Region with 99.67% YES vote

Residents of the North East part of the Northern Region in a referendum held in December last year overwhelmingly endorsed the creation of the North East Region.

About 99.67% of the voters in the area voted YES for the creation of the new region.

In all 205,804 out of 255,424 voters cast their ballots in the referendum.

205,121 of the residents voted YES for the creation of the North East Region while 447 voted NO.

Residents of the Savannah enclave also gave a 99.7% YES vote for the creation of the Savannah Region.

Only 0.3% of the voters within the Savannah enclave voted No with an 81.9% voter turnout.
