Businessman crushed to death a day after moving into new home with newly-married wife

An Asankragwa-based businessman, identified as Mr Bonnah, has been reportedly crushed to death just a day after moving into his newly completed home with his newly married wife and their two-month-old baby at Apowa in the Western Region.

The incident, according to a 3news.com report, occurred around 10:20 am on Thursday, June 6,2025, at Tanokrom, a suburb of Takoradi.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as gory and traumatizing.

According to the report, a timber-loaded trailer heading toward Fijai from Tanokrom lost control and rammed into a commercial minibus (popularly known as trotro) filled with passengers traveling from Takoradi to Kojokrom.

The driver of the trotro, who gave his name as Nkansah Kyerematen, recounted the terrifying moments leading up to the crash.

He is reported to have said that just a few meters from the Tanokrom Pipeano traffic light, he noticed the trailer reversing uncontrollably in their direction.

In an attempt to avoid a collision, he swerved, hitting a car behind him.

However, the trailer still ended up crashing into the trotro.

“All the passengers in my vehicle started running away after the door was forcefully removed by my mate. It was later that eyewitnesses told me one of the passengers trying to escape through the door had been run over by the trailer and killed.”

Connect FM’s Paa Kwesi Simpson, who was at the scene, quickly contacted the Ghana National Fire Service.

The team arrived promptly to tow the trailer and retrieve the body of the deceased.

Family members later identified the deceased as Bonnah, a well-known businessman in Asankragwa.

According to his relatives, he had just completed and moved into his new home at Apowa, accompanied by his newly wedded wife and their infant child, the day before the incident.

He was reportedly on his way to Kojokrom to purchase tiles to furnish the house when he met his untimely death.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital morgue, and personnel from the Sekondi-Takoradi Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) are investigating the incident.
