President John Dramani Mahama is hosting a high-level event on the Accra Reset in New York as part of activities surrounding the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The event, scheduled for Monday, September 21, 2026, is being held under the theme “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again” and brings together political leaders, development partners and representatives of international institutions.
The gathering is taking place at the New York Marriott Marquis and marks about one year since the Accra Reset was launched during the UN General Assembly week in New York.
The initiative has focused on discussions around global development cooperation, health governance, skills and mobility, fair deal-making and shared prosperity.
According to the organisers, the latest event is intended to take stock of progress made since the initiative was launched and renew commitments towards its broader development objectives.
A major feature of the programme is the launch of a report by the Accra Reset High-Level Panel on global health governance. The report is expected to contribute to discussions about how countries can strengthen their health systems and improve their ability to respond to global health challenges.
The event is also bringing together leaders and representatives from Africa, the Caribbean and international organisations.
Among the scheduled speakers are Kenyan President William Ruto, Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Mottley, former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and former Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla.
Representatives of the World Health Organisation, the Group of 77, the Commonwealth and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development are also expected to participate. Nigerian business executive Aliko Dangote is among the other participants listed for the event.
The programme includes discussions on health reform, global development cooperation, skills and mobility, maternal and child health, international partnerships and the role of private enterprise in development.
The organisers have described the event as an opportunity to move discussions beyond commitments and towards practical programmes and partnerships with clearer responsibilities and accountability.
President Mahama’s participation forms part of a wider programme of engagements during his attendance at the 81st UN General Assembly.
The President is scheduled to deliver Ghana’s official statement during the General Debate on Thursday, September 24. He is also expected to hold meetings with world leaders, the UN Secretary-General and executives of multinational companies.
As part of efforts to promote Ghana as an investment destination, Mahama is expected to ring the NASDAQ Closing Bell and participate in a US-Ghana Presidential Roundtable organised by the US-Africa Chamber of Commerce.
He is also scheduled to speak at the Council on Foreign Relations and attend the Ocean Panel Leaders’ Meeting.
The President’s New York programme will also include an engagement with the Ghanaian community. He is expected to host a Town Hall meeting on Friday, September 25, to share updates on his national development agenda.
The Accra Reset event therefore forms one of the major engagements of Ghana’s participation in this year’s UN General Assembly, with discussions focused on development cooperation, health, economic partnerships and international relations.
