Mahama allegedly blocks appointments of Ashanti high-ranking military officers to the UN

According to the Assin South MP, these appointments, which had been arranged several months ago, have been blocked by the president, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.
In an interview on Voice of London Radio with Mensa Musa on April 4, 2025, Ntim Fordjour asserted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC)-led administration has started on the wrong foot.
He claimed that the government is engaging in tribalistic governance.
“They are using politics to dismiss people left, right, and centre; as I speak to you, call anyone in the Ghana Armed Forces and ask them how is it that Ashanti high-ranking military officers, from lieutenant colonels to colonels, who had been promoted and appointed to UN missions, suddenly had their appointments reversed.
“These arrangements were made three to four months ago, and now this government has rescinded all such appointments for Ashantis while leaving appointments for officers from other tribes intact,” he said.
Ntim Fordjour questioned the rationale behind what he described as political, tribal, and ethnocentric governance.
He further criticized the state of affairs, highlighting widespread issues such as the alleged prevalence of cocaine trafficking and money laundering.
“What kind of political, tribal, and ethnocentric governance is this?” he asked.
“Cocaine is everywhere; money laundering is everywhere. I am telling you, they have started on a very terrible note. I have all the proof of this. I even mentioned it on Ekosiison and asked them to verify. The kind of text messages they received shocked them.”
It may be recalled that Reverend Ntim Fordjour previously criticized President Mahama after the appointment of a Brigadier General as Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, which eventually led to the resignation of generals whose ranks were higher than the now Major General William Agyapong, who is the CDS.
