‘Machoman’ Who Beat NDC Polling Agent Fails To Appear In Court

A henchman who assaulted a polling agent of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) failed to appear before Senchi Circuit Court Monday over ill health.

The Prosecutor told the Court that the suspect was taken ill to VRA Hospital Sunday.

The Judge, therefore, adjourned the case to July 27, 2020. He has been charged for assault and causing harm.

Meanwhile, there are attempts by some officials of the ruling New Patriotic Party to settle the matter amicably a move rejected by the NDC.

The Atimpoku Police in Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region arrested the Suspect on Saturday, July 4, 2020, for assaulting a Polling agent of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The suspect identified as Ernest Anyoni, and one other now at large alleged by NDC as members of Invisible forces assaulted the NDC polling agent -Moses Asare at Senchi GNAT Hall Polling Station that the agent was taking picture of them during an altercation over a non- resident applicant the NDC protested against.

The two suspects pounced on the agent and beat him mercilessly in the presence of Military personnel in the Constituency.

A complaint was lodged at the Atimpoku Police Station in which the Suspect was arrested but his accomplice has gone into hiding.

The Police have identified the suspect as the same person who attempted to beat a Uniformed Police officer at Atimpoku Zongo Mosque Polling station earlier on the same day.

The voter’s Registration exercise in Asuogyaman Constituency of the Eastern Region has been marred by pockets of violence between the ruling NPP and the opposition NDC.

Some well-built men alleged to be members of Invisible and Delta Forces reportedly associated with the ruling NPP are reportedly marauding and violently preventing applicants they suspect to be non-residents from registering while beating NDC agents who resist registration of persons allegedly bused by the NPP to register in the Constituency.

Their action has sparked confrontations in some polling stations in which a gun was reportedly pulled at New Senchi RC JHS polling station on Friday.

There was near pandemonium also at Adinakope polling station at South Senchi when the men physically stopped a woman from registering claiming she is from Ningo.

The commotion drew the MP, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, and the aspiring Parliamentary Candidate for the NPP, Paul Asare Ansah to the scene.

There was an exchange of abusive words after Paul Ansah insulted the MP.

It took the tedious effort of the police and military to restore calm as the altercation nearly escalated into violence.
