Looted items from Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly meant for persons with disability – Assembly

The electrical appliances and other items looted from the Ayawaso North Municipal Assembly are part of the Assembly’s welfare scheme to assist persons with disabilities to be productive.

The items included chest fridges, deep freezers, and sewing machines, an official of the Assembly, who pleaded anonymity, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview, on Monday December 9, 2024.

The looters broke into programme office on Sunday, December 8, 2024, while unmanned.

The incident was partially captured in a video that has since gone viral.

A number of persons, including women, were seen in the video carrying different items away, amid commentary that they were intended giveaways to political allies.

The official appealed to the Police to ensure the perpetrators were brought to book shortly.

When the GNA visited the office on Monday morning, there were some police officers on guard there.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Police in a media release announced that some 80 persons had been arrested in connection with looting and incidents of causing harm and damage to properties in various parts of the country.
