President Akufo-Addo is set to deliver his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament Thursday, in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.

The annual event is to give the President an opportunity to account for his leadership over the last year and also project the plans of the government for the coming year.

He is expected to address issues on the economy including the progress in the fight against galamsey, corruption and some arrests made so far.

Creative Arts, Education, Agriculture and Health are among sectors he is expected to throw light on.

The Presidency has not revealed details of his delivery today, but he is most likely to use the opportunity to touch on pressing national matters and controversies, including claims by the Minority in Parliament and the opposition National Democratic Congress that his fight against illegal mining has been a sham.
Invited guests, including members of the diplomatic corp, are seated and waiting for today’s delivery of the State of the Nation Address

The President is billed to present the State of the Nation Address in about 30 minutes from now but seats at both the Minority and Majority sections remain largely empty.

Apart from media houses, people are tweeting about the address by the President. Our hashtag is #SONA2020 on all social media platforms.
