LIVE UPDATES: 2021 VGMAs nominee list announcement

The announcement commences at 11 am

Hello and welcome to our comprehensive-text coverage of the 22nd Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) nomination announcement.

On January 19, 2021, a call was made to artistes, music producers, beatmakers, instrumentalists, and stakeholders to submit their works which fall within the VGMAs calendar year – January 1 to December 31, 2020.

The VGMA Board and the research team, have been at work, rigorously sifting through, meticulously reviewing, and carefully analyzing over 1000 submissions; a verdict has been reached and a list is ready for unveiling, organisers of the event Charter House has said.

Approximately 6 weeks after entry submissions closed, the biggest event in the Ghanaian music and entertainment space announces the nominees today.

From 11 am to 4 pm, 3 categories will be announced every hour, on the hour.

This will be followed by a Nominees Announcement ceremony at 8 pm, where the final set of nominees will be unveiled.

Producer of the Year nominees! Is MOG winning again or the crown will be taken from him? Last year, he beat competition from Guilty Beats, Two Bars, Unkle Beats, Willis Beats

 

Best Instrumentalist of the Year nominees! Can Emmanuel Bludo defend his title? Apart from Bludo and Joshua, the rest were not part of the list last year. Who wins?

Here are the Songwriter of the Year nominees. Kofi Kinaata is on the list again after winning the category on three occasions. Last year, he won with his ‘Things Fall Apart’. Is he making history this year?

 

Best Music Video nominees. Cina Soul’s Killi Me won this category last year.

Okyeame Kwame’s Bolgatanga Girl was adjudged Record of the Year at the 21st edition. He beat Trigmatic, Akwaboah, Worlasi, others to win the award. He is missing this year but Trigmatic and Worlasi are repping. Who wins.

 Record of the Year nominees. This category is technical. The song needn’t be popular. It’s the quality that matters.

Afrobeats/Afropop Song of the Year. And the nominees are…

 

In the year under review, a number of hiphop songs were released. Aside from the lyrical battle that involved Eno Barony, Freda Rhymz and Sista Afia, the Kumerica movement became a sensation through drill music as some young acts joined the craze.
