Let’s improve cancer care – First Lady
First Lady Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has called for increased awareness and improvement in cancer care in Ghana.
She called for collaboration between the government and private entities to improve cancer care by providing the necessary equipment and infrastructure.
The First Lady bemoaned the negative impact cancer poses to individuals, families and society due to the costly nature of treating the disease.
Mrs Akufo-Addo said this at the World Cancer Day celebration held in Kumasi on the theme: “I’m and I will”.
For her part, Princess Dina Mired of Jordan, who doubles as President of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), also urged the government to prioritise cancer care in Ghana.
She called for systems and proper mechanisms to be put in place to fight cancer.
She said without proper organisation and partnership between the government and private entities, it will be difficult to fight the disease.
Princess Mired said she was a mother of a victim of the disease, and for that reason, she decided to help to improve cancer care.
