The Overlord of Dagbon, Ya Na Abukari II has charged Ghanaians, especially Dagombas to be circumspect in their discussions and commentary about Dagbon following the reconciliation of the Abudu and Andani royal gates.

The Ya Na said people must be wary of the fact that the kingdom is in a healing process and, therefore, their energies must be geared at helping the healing and reconciliation process to consolidate the peace and unity achieved so far.

The Ya Na, who was speaking at the Gbewa Palace in Yendi, indicated that the youth should be seen as ambassadors of peace and advocates of development.

He cautioned the youth against making divisive commentary on both social media and mainstream media that could hurt the unity and peace achieved.

Reiterating the comments of the Ya Na in an exclusive interview with Class 91.3FM on Thursday, 31 January 2019, Alhaji Anas Abdulai, a member of the Ya Na’s court, said the period of hostility is over and Dagombas must be seen accommodating each other.

He stated that people must rally together, forget the past and chart a new course for a better future.

He stressed that it was important the natives of Dagbon shun from resuscitating “old wounds” in the fragile atmosphere of peace.

“We need to ensure that our old wounds are properly healed before we can begin to ensure that we take precautions against getting new wounds. They should ensure that they don’t create impressions that would raise people’s anxiety and create unnecessary panic,” Alhaji Anas advised.

Alhaji Anas said all outstanding funerals in the Dagbon Traditional Area would be performed as part of the peace process.

Since the coronation of Ya Na Abukari II, many of the ethnic groups in Dagbon have staged various cultural dances at the forecourt of the Gbewa Palace as part of moves to strengthen the ties and cohesion among them.

Many chiefs of Dagbon, including paramount and divisional chiefs, have since paid homage to the Ya Na and declared their allegiance to him.
