Here's a look back at the history of the Ghanaian club, which has become a favorite one of the capital's public.

Ghana Premier League is in full swing. Seven clubs fight for gold medals and access to the CAF Champions League, as many more for the right to remain in the top division. And although Legon Cities is struggling to survive this season, the team has proven they can take on even the toughest opponents.

Formation and first trophy

Legon Cities is a relatively young team. It was created in Accra entitled Wa All Stars in 2006. The club qualified for the Ghanaian football top division a year later, but it took them 10 years to win their first trophy.

In the 16/17 season, All Stars were one of the main contenders for the title and took Aduana Stars as a leader – a direct rival in the fight for first place. Both opponents were determined and scored one goal each in 10 minutes. The draw lasted until the 89th minute when the referee awarded a penalty to the guests' goal, and Sadiq Alhassan realized it. The club's fans remembered that day for a long time – after all, Wa All Stars became the first club from northern Ghana to win the championship medals of the Premier league.

In 2019, the club was acquired by the Ghanaian government and renamed Legon Cities. The team also moved to a new stadium, the 40,000-seat Accra Sports Stadium, where enthusiastic fans in orange and black colors were driving  their team furiously forward. This arena is under reconstruction now, and the team had
to move to a more modest Elwak Sports Stadium.
