‘Leave or die’ – ISWAP gives evacuation notice to residents of Borno communities

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have issued evacuation notices to residents of Kukawa LGA, warning them to leave their communities or face the risk of being killed.

A resident who fled his community to Maiduguri three hours after receiving the threat shared this information with Channels Television.

The terrorists reportedly assembled residents from various communities in the LGA on Thursday, May 30, 2024, and instructed them to vacate their homes before Saturday, June 1, or face the threat of death.

Following the warning, residents quickly fled the community, with some relocating to Kross Kauwa and others to Monguno.

Kukawa LGA, located near Lake Chad, is known for fishing, farming, and other agricultural activities. It is surrounded by Lake Chad and is under the protection of Nigerian Army and Navy troops.

Despite efforts by the Babagana Zulum administration to resettle communities like Kross Kauwa, Baga, Doron-Baga, Kukawa, and Tumbun Rogo, which were displaced during the insurgency, Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists continue to target the area due to its socioeconomic importance.
