NDC race: Kwasi Pratt called to counsel Kojo Bonsu
The former Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu, may rescind his decision to contest the flagbearer position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) if an intervention by the Editor-In-Chief of The Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr materializes.
Pratt has been called to counsel Bonsu to rescind his decision since going ahead with that move is considered by many as a betrayal of trust following the successful organization of the party’s Unity Walk which was organized by the former sports administrator and the deputy National Organiser of the NDC, Joshua Amidu Akamba.
Akamba who made this revelation in an interview with Accra-based Okay FM, Monday, October 1, 2018, said Pratt was called to intervene since he (Pratt) is a very good friend of Kojo Bonsu and himself.
“Kwasi Pratt is a very good friend to me and Kojo Bonsu. So, when I heard about the move initiated by Kojo Bonsu, I called Kwasi Pratt around 23:00 GMT to counsel Kojo Bonsu to rescind his decision to contest the flagbearer race”, he said.
Ever since Kojo Bonsu made public his decision to join the contest for the flagbearer position of the party, Akamba has been accused by a cross section of the party followers for having foreknowledge and playing a critical role to supporting the former Kumasi Mayor’s intention.
Some of the party’s supporters say Akamba can never prove his innocence since he supported Kojo Bonsu to organize the party’s Unity Walk, an initiative which is now been referred by many as a vehicle which was used by the duo to position themselves for key party positions.
Akamba has however, denied such claims, noting that never did he discuss anything beyond ensuring unity in the NDC with the Unity Walk initiative with Kojo Bonsu.
“There is no way Kojo Bonsu has sat and discussed with me that he is going to contest the flagbearer position of the party. It took me by surprise when I heard the news. There is no such occasion that Kojo Bonsu and I have sat and discussed anything about using the Unity Walk to push an agenda for him to become the flagbearer of the NDC and myself into key position in the party. Kojo Bonsu has a lot of experience and brains. If you say one word, Kojo Bonsu can develop that one word and I have that respect for him as a brother. When it comes to anything to do with Unity Walk and enforcing our branches, Kojo Bonsu will always be my brother. But when it comes to his intention to run as the flagbearer of the NDC, Kojo Bonsu knows very well that I have never supported the idea for him to become the flagbearer of this party”, he mused.
To Akamba, Kojo Bonsu’s decision to contest the flagbearer position of the party is spurred by things he (Kojo Bonsu) considers to have gone wrong.
