Lagos Speaker Mojisola Meranda resigns

Mojisola Meranda has resigned from her position as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly amid the ongoing battle with the embattled Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

In January, Meranda was appointed the first female Speaker after her predecessor, Mudashiru Obasa, was impeached by lawmakers over his gross attitude towards the President.

This led to Mudashiru taking legal action against the lawmakers and claiming that his impeachment was illegal.

The lawmakers of the Lagos State House of Assembly reiterated their rejection of Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted speaker, and maintained that Mojisola Meranda was the recognised speaker.

However, reports have surfaced that Meranda has submitted her resignation as the Speaker in the light of the crisis within the Assembly.

It has been stated that Meranda resigned in the interest of maintaining unity within the Assembly and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
