KT Hammond rejects result of Adansi Asokwa elections, hints at court action

The Member of Parliament for the Adansi Asokwa constituency in the Ashanti Region has said that he would go to court over the parliamentary result declared by the Electoral Commission.

According to him, there were irregularities in the electoral process, with some pink sheets being problematic and other ballot boxes going missing before the official counting.

The NPP MP threatened that he has petitioned the EC to conduct a recount and address the concerns; otherwise, he would take the matter to court for settlement.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews on December 9, 2024, he said:

“I’m asking for a recount because it worries me that the ballot papers may not accurately represent what they found on the pink sheet. Some of the pink sheets my agent told me about have white at the back and front, but that is not supposed to be so.

“That is why I feel I have the right to a recount. I will accept the result if, after the recount, I lose. Even though it has been declared by the EC, I will take action.”

Hammond also indicated that the NPP recorded low numbers because most of its supporters did not take part in the general elections.

“Some of the people did not come out to vote, and that affected us. Some of the constituents were demanding money before voting, but I refused,” he added.

The long-serving MP commented after the EC announced that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi-Dorani, secured 14,229 of the valid votes while he garnered 13,275 votes.
