Kintampo fatal crash: 52 responding to treatment

Fifty-two passengers involved in last Friday’s gory accident on the Kintampo highway are responding to treatment, Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong has said.

Chief Inspector Oppong is the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the newly created three Bono regions and speaking on a radio interview Monday morning, he said investigations into the real cause of the road crash were still underway.

But, he said 108 passengers were onboard the two long luxurious buses which were travelling in opposite directions in the early hours of last Friday, March 22.

In all, he said 60 passengers died in the crash, with 39 charred and already given a mass burial.

Chief Inspector Oppong debunked complaints that the road the two buses were plying on were awful, however, he said signage on the highway is either poor or absent, therefore, making night driving dangerous.

Last Friday’s carnage was the second highest tragedy Ghana has recorded on the same highway after the first one in 2015 which claimed 70 lives.
