Mr. Albert Boamah Chairman for Sofoline Drivers Union Association has
challenged Ghana police personnel especially those within MTTU to take a strong cue from the gory accident which occurred recently on the Takyiman highway.
Any Police officer ( MTTU officials) assigned to conduct vehicular checks on the various roads in the country he advised should refrain from bribery and all forms of extortions from drivers caught flouting road regulations and ensure that they are arrested and processed for court.
He hit the nail on the head that issues of road accidents will reduce drastically if police officers decide to conduct their duties professionally by staying away from bribery.
“Most MTTU officials characteristically allow drivers who are not even qualified for the road to induce them financially and this has given room for the rampant accidents we witness today” he said.

He also called on Journalists especially morning show hosts who are always bent on discussing political issues to advise themselves and consider dedicating a higher percentage of their airtime for the discussion of issues related to road safety.
The fatal Takyiman road accident which claimed several lives should serves as a great wake up call to all Ghanaian journalists, explaining that most media practitioners are so much addicted to politics insofar they have no space to educate the public on road safety issues.
According to the outspoken chairman the media is partly to be blamed for the numerous vehicular accidents owing to the fact that majority have not committed themselves as in sensitizing the public on road safety.
Considering the media as one of the powerful and effective means of information and education, Mr. Boamah per his statement was expecting practitioners to capitalise on their powerful role and touch the conscience of road users especially drivers.
During a short press briefing in Kumasi, he challenged that it is high time the media especially radio and television opened up their platform to road experts to educate the public on issues pertaining to safety regulations, the need for adherence and dangers associated if a road user violates.
