JUST IN: Uproar as two Speakers emerge after Assembly inauguration

Leadership crisis has engulfed Bauchi State House of Assembly with the emergence of two Speakers following the inauguration of the 9th Assembly on Thursday.

While the eight members of the minority People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with three other members of the majority All Progressives Congress (APC) in House elected Abubakar Y. Suleiman of the APC representing Ningi constituency as the Speaker and Ahmed Kawule of the PDP representing Zungur/Galambi/Miri Constituency as the Deputy Speaker, the other members of the APC who were prevented from gaining access in the hallow chambers of the Assembly elected the former Speaker, Kawuwa Shehu Damina as the new Speaker a development that has now caused political crisis in the state.

Our Correspondent who witnessed the drama discovered that as early as 6am, the 8 members of the PDP and three others from the APC and NNPP stormed the House, locked out the remaining APC members-elect gaining entrance into the Chambers and held the inaugural sitting during which the two principal officers were elected.

When the remaining APC members-elect got to the Assembly complex they were prevented from gaining access in to the chambers and decided to hold their own inaugural sitting outside in the open.
Armed Security personnel have taken over the Assembly as at the time of filing this report. The aggrieved APC members will address the press later.
