JUST IN: Accident kills nine on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

MyNigeria learnt that the accident, which happened in the early hours of Monday, involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number UYY165ZY conveying a total of 13 people and a truck registered DKA244XC.

When MyNigeria contacted the Chief Route Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, she said nine males and three females died while three others sustained varying degrees of injury.

She said, “The suspected causes of the fatal crash were excessive speed and fatigue which led to loss of control and the driver rammed into a stationed truck.

“The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital in Mowe while the deceased were deposited at Idera morgue in Sagamu.

Okpe revealed that the Sector Commander expressed displeasure over the recklessness of some drivers for not observing the stipulated speed limit and refusal to obey the 15 minutes rest after 4 hrs journey.

She said he sympathized with the family of the crash victims and enjoined them to contact Mowe Unit Command for more information about the crash.
