Joseph Paintsil wins MLS Western Conference trophy in debut season

Black Stars forward Joseph Paintsil has won the MLS Western Conference trophy with LA Galaxy following their 1-0 win over the Seattle Sounders on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

The victory means LA Galaxy will play in the Playoffs Final, and Paintsil, who featured for nearly the entire game, will have the chance to add another trophy to his cabinet.

Paintsil also hopes to become the latest Ghanaian player to win the MLS Cup, following in the footsteps of Jonathan Mensah and Harrison Afful, who both lifted the trophy in 2020.

On a challenging night, Paintsil managed just one successful dribble and achieved a passing accuracy of 88%, but failed to register a shot on target.

However, he will have his teammate Dejan Joveljic to thank, as the Serbian striker scored with four minutes of regular time left to secure the win.

LA Galaxy will now face Eastern Conference champions New York Red Bulls on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

The match will take place in Los Angeles, giving Galaxy the chance to claim their sixth MLS Cup title on home turf.

Paintsil scored three goals and made one assist in the four playoff games.
