Jordan Ayew reveals what Dede Ayew, Asamoah Gyan told him after he was named Black Stars skipper

Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew has disclosed that his brother, Andre Dede Ayew, wished him well after it became public that he had been selected as the substantive Black Stars captain.

He indicated that his brother, the former captain of the team, admonished him on how to conduct himself and bond with his colleagues to attain success.

The Leicester City attacker also disclosed that former captain Asamoah Gyan had discussions with him and offered advice on how to thrive in his new role.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Sport Africa, Jordan Ayew noted that he has learned from previous Black Stars captains and feels ready to take on the role.

“Andre and I are very close. He congratulated me and gave me some advice. Asamoah [Gyan] did as well. I have learned from the best, whether it’s Asamoah [Gyan] or Andre [Ayew]. I’ll try to pick up things from their qualities,” he said.

Ayew’s first task as captain is to lead the Black Stars to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after their disastrous performance in the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Black Stars will face Chad on March 21, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium before facing Madagascar in an away fixture on March 24, 2025.
