Ghanaian economist and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dalex Finance, Joe Jackson, was spotted at the recently held #StopGalamseyNow protest held in Accra.

The protest, which was spearheaded by the Coalition of Concerned Citizens against Galamsey, was held to draw attention to the environmental damage caused by galamsey activities and secure the release of about 53 Democracy Hub protesters detained after an earlier protest on September 22.

Joe Jackson, who has been vocal about the government’s inactions concerning the galamsey menace, joined protesters on the streets of Accra in a show of solidarity.

Videos on social media showed the economist marching along with the protesters and singing patriotic songs.

In a post on X after the protest, he pointed out that his involvement in the campaign was a show of support for the youth who had gone to the streets to fight for their future.

“I was at the Anti Galamsey Demo. What is your excuse for not joining the protest? We all dey use galamsey water.

“I was there to support my sons and daughters in their fight for their future,” he shared.

The escalating environmental crisis, driven by galamsey, has led to the mobilisation of various labour groups, environmentalists, health practitioners, clergy and concerned citizens to demand stricter measures from government in curbing the galamsey menace.
