GJA is not only body to protect journalists – GJA secretary

The General Secretary of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has stated that it is not only the duty of the GJA to protect journalists, but all stakeholders of the media should play a role.

Speaking in an interview on Starr Today (Starr FM), Edmond Kofi Yeboah said, “first of all, it’s not only a question of what the GJA can do but what all stakeholders within the media can do.”

The interview came as a result of an undercover journalist, Ahmed Hussein-
Suale who was shot dead while driving home.

Ahmed was the lead investigator of the much acclaimed expose´ at the Ghana Football Association which led to a lifetime ban for the President of the institution, Kwesi Nyantakyi.

After the broadcast of the football documentary, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong circulated photos of Mr Hussein-Suale and called for retribution against him.

The unidentified men on motorbikes shot Ahmed Hussein-Suale three times in Madina while driving on his way home.

The Ghana Journalist Association held a press conference Thursday at the Ghana International Press Centre and has called on the police to treat the issue as a matter of urgency.

They also added their voice to other individuals, organizations including former President John Dramani Mahama and President Nana Akufo-Addo appealing to the various institution in charge of investigation to speed up with the investigation to bring the persons responsible for the death of Ahmed to book.

Some Journalists who attended the news conference stated they do not feel safe in the country especially on the back of this incident.

GJA is the umbrella organization representing Ghanaian Journalists and to which most journalists in the country belong. It was founded in the year 1949.

CID invites Ken Agyapong over killing of Anas’ undercover partner

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has officially invited Member of Parliament for Assin Central, the Honorable Kennedy Agyapong over the murder of investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas partner, Mr Ahmed Hussein-Suale, MyNewsGh.com has confirmed.

The police said they will leave no stone unturned in getting to the bottom of the murder. They said Mr Kennedy Agyapong is only being invited as a person of interest.

Mr Ahmed Hussein Suale who worked with the Tiger Eye Private Investigations operated by ace journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was gunned down by unknown assailants at Madina on Wednesday.

Hussein-Suale was shot three times, twice in the chest and another in the neck late Wednesday night while driving home by unidentified men riding a motorbike. He is the first journalist in the country to be killed this year.

According to the CID, it is following all leads, indicating that all persons suspected to be linked to the murder will be invited to assist in the investigations.

Kennedy Agyapong is expected to tell the police what he knows about the murder.
