Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has refused to take credit for Ademola Lookman’s impressive performance in recent seasons.
Gasperini approved the signing of the Nigerian international from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022 following his loan spell at Leicester City.
Since joining Atalanta, the 27-year-old’s performance has been on an upward trajectory, winning the club’s Player of the Season award for the past two seasons.
Notably, Lookman delivered a stellar performance in the Europa League final, scoring a remarkable hat-trick to help La Dea secure their first European title last season against Bayer Leverkusen.
Lookman’s resurgence has not gone unnoticed; he was named CAF Footballer of the Year in Morocco last Monday and was ranked the 14th best player in the world at the Ballon d’Or awards.
Gasperini believes Lookman’s rise to stardom should be credited not only to him but to everyone at the club who has contributed to the Super Eagles star’s development.
“For many years, the objective for Atalanta was to improve players and see them go to greater heights,” he told Football Italia.
“It’s not my credit, it goes to everyone at Atalanta who helps the players to grow, and of course, the credit goes to the players themselves. They have what it takes, we just help them to bring that out.”
