NHIA introduces mobile MTN, Vodafone SHORTCODE for NHIS renewal and authentication

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has developed a dedicated NHIS USSD-based service for its members.

This service can be accessed by dialing an easy to remember shortcode, *842*10#, from any MTN or Vodafone number and is expected to be available on all networks in due course.

The NHIA service code – *842*10# , can be used by NHIS members to check the status of their NHIS Membership Eligibility, NHIS Benet Package and NHIS Medicines list.

NHIA is also testing the option to allow members to complete their annual membership renewals comfortably and safely from their mobile phones by using the code.

As part of its digitization program, the National Health Insurance Authority will in next month launch a program dubbed” NHIS Mobile Membership Renewal and Authentication project”.

The program which is being piloted in the Asuogyaman and West Mamprusi districts in the Eastern and Northern regions respectively will enable members to renew their membership cards via mobile phone without going through the manual system.

This was revealed at the Ashanti regional office of the NHIA by officials during a function covered by MyNewsGh.com.

Speaking at the function, Mr. Oswald Mensah, Deputy Corporate Affairs Manager, NHIA noted that, to this effect, a media and stakeholders sensitization program is being rolled out throughout the country to make members aware of the aforementioned plans by the Authority.

He then requested its members to be vigilant against fraudulent attempts by scammers to capture the mobile money PIN codes.

According to him, the NHIA is continuously working to improve the convenience and satisfaction of their members in the membership renewal process, reduce waiting times and queues at various districts in which they operate.
