Foase Killings: Committee presents report to Asantehene

The committee set up by the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to investigate circumstances surrounding the killing of four Foase youth in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of Ashanti region has presented its report to the Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II.

The Deputy Minister of Ashanti region, Elizerbeth Agyeman, Mayor of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Osei Assibey Antwi and the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi led representatives from the National Security Council to the Manhyia palace to present their findings.

Four people have died whilst several others sustained gunshot injuries  after police fired through residents of Foase who were protesting attempts to relocate the Atwima Kwanwoma district   capital from Foase to Twedie on Wednesday February 7, 2017.

The Deputy Ashanti regional Minster, Elizabeth Agyeman, confirmed this in an interview with Otec news’ Jacob Agyenim Boateng the report has been submitted to the Asantehene.

Although the content of the committee’s findings are yet to be made public, Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II has directed that the district capital should be shared among the towns Foase and Twedie.

The directive also explained that the administration block of the district capital be based at Twedie with other departments remaining at Foase.

Residents of Foase after the directive have expressed their dismay saying that their family members who were killed have died for nothing.

They have hinted they are not ready to meet any authority to discuss the movement of the district capital from Foase to Twedie. However, the chief of Asokore Mampong, Nana Boakye Ansah Debra II, has also been tasked by Asantehene to meet the Foase community to resolve the misunderstandings.
