I’ll be fair to all Kejetia traders; NPP members not special- KMA Mayor replies Wontumi on stores allocation
Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Hon Osei Assibey Antwi has subtly replied the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako widely known as Chairman Wontumi who claimed party members are Ghanaians and deserve some of stores at the redeveloped Kajetia market, MyNewsGh.com can report.
Chairman Wontumi stated that if executives of the NPP in Ashanti Region are demanding Kejetia stores, he sees nothing wrong saying NPP members are also Ghanaians.
“Kwame, NPP Ashanti Regional Executives are for developmentand the betterment of the region and Kumasi. We are not demanding stores as theKMA Mayor Osei Assibey and his assembly members are saying. Even if we aredemanding some of the stores for NPP members, Kwame are they not Ghanaians?”Wontumi said.
But the Mayor has stated categorically affected traders of Kejetia Market would be given first priority in the re-allocation of stores before anyone else.
The Project started which started in July 2015 under the erstwhile John Dramani Mahama administration was supposed to have completed inAugust 2018 but delayed further over unexplained reasons.
City authorities explain that it was stalled due to law suits initiated by owners of buildings which stood in the way of the project sites and had to be demolished.
It would be recalled that the Presiding Member of KMA Abraham Boadi popularly known as Opooman accused NPP Ashanti Regional executives of sabotaging the KMA boss following their interest in the market.
For fear of losing their businesses, the Kejetia Traders Association and other associations have threatened to embark on demonstration against the authorities.
Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) boss Osei Assibey Antwi speaking to the media during stakeholders meeting at Cultural Centre said the assembly will ensure smooth validation process for the affected traders.
According to the mayor, the assembly would not disappoint the traders, saying the assembly will comply with the guidelines under theroadmap to get the traders well-settled.
“The validation committee has so far validated 998 traders. The stores will be given to only legal traders to ensure fairness in the sharing of the stores. I’m urging the traders to see the validation committee and validate themselves to help the assembly to give the stores to right traders” he said.
